Jessie L. Shafer

Jessie L. Shafer, age 87 of Massillon, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010. She was born in Millersburg, Ohio on May 11, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Alex and Ethel (Cornell) Fehndrich. She was employed by the Massillon Board of Education as a dietician with the Massillon City Schools. She was a member of First Christian Church in Massillon. She loved her home, her great-grandsons, gardening and traveling. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Burt” Shafer and her infant son Dennis Shafer, and her sisters, Leora Mae Harris, Evelyn Lewandoski, Inez Duke, Iona Foltz and Dora Marie Tittle. She is survived by her son Richard Shafer of Lawrence Township, her daughter, Patricia Norris of Salisbury, NC, her grandchildren, Laurie Shafer, Scott Shafer and Jennifer (Nathan) Pocock, her great grandchildren, Bailey, Austin and Liam Pocock, her brother Arthur W. (Betty) Fehndrich of Moreland, OH and her sister Fern Oldroyd of Canton. A service to celebrate her life will take place on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral with Rev. Timothy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
