Jesse B. Johnston, age 84 of Canal Fulton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Gaslite Villa. He was born on November 6, 1925 in Canal Fulton and was the son of the late John and Jessie (Allison) Johnston. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he began his career as a truck driver. He retired from Consolidated Freightways where he was the first driver in the Eastern region of the United States to earn the 3 Million Mile Safe Driver Award. Jesse was a member of Teamster’s Local 92 and the Teamster’s Retirees Club. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Martyr Lutheran Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Johnston, his sister, Betty Lancaster and his step son John Vukas. He is survived by his wife, Florence M. (Maciag) Johnston, whom he married on December 14, 1952, his daughters, Susan Johnston of Canal Fulton and Kathleen (Frank) Ferraro of Massillon, his son Jesse B. (Kim) Johnston, II of Windsor, CO, his stepdaughter, Judith Gardner of North Canton and 9 grandchildren. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE in Massillon with Dr. Bruce Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
