Jerry C. Hawkins

Jerry C. Hawkins, age 90 of Massillon, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at Rose Lane Nursing Home. Jerry was born on December 4, 1924 in Dover the son of the late Clifford and Elizabeth (Waite) Hawkins. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Jerry was a United States Navy veteran and served our country during WWII in the Submarine Service. He was a machinist at Republic Steel, supervisor at Goodyear Aerospace and Loral Defense Systems. One of Jerry's accomplishments was working on the blimps at Goodyear Aerospace Wingfoot Lake. He was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and the America Legion Post #221 where he was on the Color Guard and Forty and Eight. In retirement he worked part time for Safety Resource Co. of Ohio. Jerry enjoyed fishing, attending Massillon Tiger football games and being with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgiana (Myatovich) Hawkins; his sons, Todd (Velecia Valentine) Hawkins, and Mark (Tami) Hawkins; and his twin granddaughters, Kasey and Kelsey, and Van, Tess Lela, and Ty. The family would like to thank the care givers at Rose Lane, Dr. William Kerek and Crossroads Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Fr. Aleksa Pavichevich will be Officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. A Pomen service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
