Jerome M. Hathaway

Jerome M. Hathaway. 87 of Massillon, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 25, 1930 and was the son of the late Jerome and Mae (Mares) Hathaway. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) with an Engineering Degree in Metallurgy. He served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He worked locally at Massillon Steel Casting Co. and Canton Drop Forge throughout his career and was a past member The Steel Founders Society of America and the Massillon Club. He was a little league baseball coach, basketball coach, he demanded accountability. In his church at St. Joseph’s he was a member of the School Booster Club, a long time Commentator and Eucharistic Minister visiting area rest homes, hospitals and hospices. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved gardening, traveling, the ocean, swimming, sports activities, cooking and most of all He loved people. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mildred R. Hathaway on September 13, 2011 and his son, Joel Hathaway (April 9, 2002). Survivors include four sons, Jerome (Mary) Hathaway, Jeff (Victoria) Hathaway, Jonathan (Margaret) Hathaway and Jason (Veronica) Hathaway. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Lisa & Michael Maier, Stacey & Michael Dentler, Ashley and Jimmy Busch, Jerome, Jeff, Alexander, Ian, McKenna & Morgan Hathaway, six great grandchildren and his best friend Nita Stoner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond Paul and Fr. Thomas Bishop con-celebrating the Mass. Military honors will follow. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerome’s name for the construction of the Northwest High School Hall of Fame, 8580 Erie Street North, Canal Fulton, OH 44614 and a permanent plaque will be hung in his honor.
