Jerold S. Powell

Jerold S. Powell, “Deeda”, 71, passed away August 22, 2010. He resided the last three years at AlterCare of Alliance following an injury to his spinal cord that left him paralyzed. Jerry accepted his health challenges with determination and dignity; and through his positive attitude gave hope and inspiration to fellow residents, family and friends. He was born October 23, 1938 in Zanesville to the late Robert & Olive (Warne) Powell. He was with Mooney and Moses Insulation Company for 40 years and retired as vice president. Prior to his paralyzation he was an active member of the New Albany United Methodist Church. He participated in the praise and worship team, the men’s Bible study and was a dedicated sponsor to those in AA. Jerold is survived by his wife of 25 years Claudia (Bowers) Powell of Massillon; three daughters, Jeri Lynn (Brent) Houck of FL, Suzanne (Tony) Beach of Columbus, and Jennifer (Terry) Jarvis of North Canton; two step-sons, Matthew and Eric Muhlfelder of Massillon. He has seven grandchildren: Kyle, Sarah Beth, Connor, Zackary, Cassandra, Kennedy, and Jeremy. Also surviving are two sisters and two brothers: Beth, Margie, Dave and Bob; and former wife, Esther Gladney Hunter. A Remembrance of Jerold’s life will be 3 PM Saturday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Friends may call from 2 PM until the time of the service.
