Janice Celestine Smith, 73, of North Canton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 4, 2024.
She was born on December 14, 1950, to the late Wilbert and Anna (Holmes) Gibson of Steubenville, OH.
Janice was a woman of unwavering faith and deep love for her family. She furthered her education, earning her bachelor’s degree from Malone University. Her dedication to serving others led her to a fulfilling career as a Chaplain at Akron General Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, and Crossroads Hospice. She also worked tirelessly for Midwest Home Health Care, bringing comfort and solace to those in need.
Known for her boundless love, empathy, and compassion, Janice had a unique ability to discern the needs of her loved ones and offer encouragement and support, whether in times of joy or struggle. She never wavered in her faith and was a steadfast pillar of strength for her family, always striving to keep the family unit together.
Janice's legacy is one of love, kindness, and a commitment to serving others. She lived her life as an example of compassion and selflessness, always encouraging others to love one another and be a blessing to those around them.
Janice is survived by her loving children, David (Danielle) Smith II, LaTanya (Eric) Smith-Ball, Shana Smith, and Stephanie (DeAndre) Jeter; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Smith Sr, and siblings, Sharon L. Gibson, Carol Y. Gibson, and Christopher M. Gibson.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:00 am in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Donations are welcomed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of Janice Smith.
