October 10, 1945 — September 5, 2009

Janet Elaine Zak, age 63, of Canton passed away on Saturday, September 5th at home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was born October 10, 1945 in Findlay, OH to Mark E. and Gladys B. (Mellott) Wasson. She married Stanley J. Zak on July 1st, 1967 in Columbus, OH. She graduated from Elmwood High School, The Ohio State University and Ashland University. She was a registered nurse for the past 41 years. Jan taught at Perry High School for 15 years, where she founded the Med Tech program and coached girls’ cross country from 1998 to 2006. She is survived by her husband and children, Robert J. Zak, Columbus, OH; Andrew A. (Morgan) Zak, Cincinnati, OH; and Michael S. Zak, Cornelius, NC. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard M. (Karen) Wasson, Bloomdale, OH; Paul D. (Kathleen) Wasson, Bloomdale, OH; and sister, Jo Ann (Randall) Carns, Temperance, MI. Her first grandchild is expected in October. Jan loved her students and was a wonderful mentor and inspiration to many. She loved spending time outdoors and pursued running, hiking, skiing, and kayaking. She took her students and sons on numerous trips out West to pursue those passions. Visitation will be on Wednesday September 9th from 6-8 PM at Paquelet Funeral Home (1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, OH 44646) with a memorial service to follow on Thursday September 10th at 11:00AM at Paquelet Funeral Home, Reverend Michael Namy officiating.
