Jane E. Sibila, 88, of Massillon, Ohio, died September 16, 2023. She was the loving wife of Ronald R. Sibila for 69 years. Mother of Shelley Habermann (Joseph – deceased), Mike Sibila (Laura), Linda Miller (Dave), Joni Locke (Todd), and Douglas Sibila (Carrie). She was the daughter of Robert and Agnes Remley (both deceased); sister of Patricia Remley (deceased) and Mary Szatynski. Grandmother of Joe Habermann, Liz Habermann (deceased), Dakin Sibila (Melissa), John Miller, Shaun Miller (Carissa), Nick Miller, Noah Miller, Sarah Miller, Vivian Miller, Tara Miller (Zach), Todd Locke (Molly), Helen Sibila, and Kate Sibila. Great-grandmother to Joey Habermann, Hannibal Sibila, Milani Miller, Kai Miller, Zoey Miller, Jaxson Miller, and Juliet Locke.
She was born on November 13, 1934, in Massillon, Ohio. She attended St. Mary Elementary School and Longfellow Junior High, graduating from Washington High School in 1952, where she ranked 1st out of 343 students. She attended Ohio University for two years, studying chemical engineering, where she met her future husband. They were married on August 7, 1954. While at Ohio University, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was on the girls’ tennis team.
Jane was very active in the community. She was a past president of the Jaycee Wives, past Massillon Museum board member, tour guide for the Massillon Woman’s Club where she was a long-time member, and a charter member of the Ohio Trucking Association Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout leader for over ten years. Jane was the President of the Home and Garden Club, secretary of the 18-hole golfers at Shady Hollow Country Club, and a board member of the Springhill Farm. She was a Precinct Committee member for the Perry Township Board of Elections and ran for Perry Township Trustee in November 1975. She has been an active member of St. Mary Church in Massillon, Ohio all her life - other than the three years she lived in Houston, Texas and Sacramento, California, where her husband was stationed as a navigator in the U. S. Air Force - and a lector for many years. Jane and Ron loved to travel and play golf, when and where they could. Jane was an avid reader, did the daily crossword puzzle and loved to garden and do needlepoint. Jane and Ron were founding members of the Canton Chapter of Legatus, an international organization of Catholic business professionals.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, September 20th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Paquelet Funeral Home, located at 1100 Wales Road, NE in Massillon, Ohio. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 21st at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church located at 206 Cherry Road, NE in Massillon, Ohio. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery located at 3469 Lincoln Way in Massillon, Ohio following the Mass.
