Jane Carrie (Leifer) Gardner, age 93, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 with her loving daughter at her side. She was born in Massillon on May 22, 1918 to the late Walter Leifer and Jane (Heinbuch) Leifer. She was married to the late Charles Edwin “Ed” Gardner on October, 24, 1940 and they were together for 66 years until his passing in 2007. She was a 1936 graduate of Washington High School and attended Ohio Wesleyan University. She was employed at the Massillon Aluminum Company, Penney’s, Linde’s and Massillon State Hospital. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Massillon, Charter member of Jackson Township Chapter AARP 3541 and former member of the Massillon Woman’s Club and Monnett Club. Survivors include her daughter Cynthia Gardner of Massillon, Granddaughter, Carrie (Joseph) Freistuhler of Elyria, Daughter-in-law, Loretta Gardner of Navarre, Step-Grandson, Christopher McThrall of Louisville, Great-Step-Grandson, Kenneth Freistuhler of Florida as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Brian Gardner, Brother, Wesley Leifer, Sister, Elizabeth Loudiana, Sister-in-law, Ruth Alexander, and Grandson, Scott Allen Gardner. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00AM at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Pastor Larry Snodgrass officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8PM on Thursday, June 9, 2011, and one hour prior to the funeral service.
