James William Gibson

James William Gibson, Sr., age 81 of Massillon, died on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Amherst Meadows. He was born on June 12, 1927 and was a Massillon resident all of his life. He was a graduate of Washington High School and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy. After retiring from Republic Steel, he owned and operated Massillon Production Tool. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, the North Lawrence Fish and Game Club and the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed creating his own lures. He is survived by his wife, Wilma N. (Buchwalter) Gibson, whom he married on May 4, 1979, his daughter, Rebecca R. Gibson of Lisbon, OH, his son, James W. Gibson, Jr. of Massillon, his brother Frank (Margaret) Gibson of Massillon, his 3 sisters, Peg Frank of Boulder, Colorado, Nancy Helmuth of Orrville, OH, Betty (Dale) Sherrett of Ruskin, FL, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and his stepchildren, Becky Shonk of Cuyahoga Falls, Beth Dole of Orrville, Barbara (Chester) Stoll of Dalton, Bonnie (David) Fleming of Orrville, Bill Graber (John Sanchez) of Jersey City, NJ, Bob (Amy) Graber of Orrville and Beverly Pedroza of Melbourne, FL. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jack. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Jeff Shultz officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Burial will follow the luncheon at Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
