Waltz, M.D., James R. June 30, 1935 — October 21, 2018 James Richard Waltz, M.D., 83, passed away October 21, 2018. He was born in Massillon, Ohio June 30, 1935, the second of twin sons of Harold and Jane (Kraner) Waltz. He graduated from Washington High School, Ohio University, and the Ohio State College of Medicine. After medical school and residency, Jim served two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, which included a year in Vietnam. He began private practice in the Kansas City, Missouri area. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Missouri Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Kansas City Medical Society, Phi Delta Theta social fraternity, Phi Chi medical fraternity and the Warren H. Cole Society. Jim married Elfrieda Beyer in 1957. He enjoyed classical music, opera, and golf. Following retirement, they spent time traveling. Preceding Jim in death are his wife, Elfrieda; grandparents and parents; his twin brother, Dr. Charles A. Waltz; and younger brother, David Waltz. Jim is survived by his children, Lisa (Tom) Rose and Chris (Felicia) Waltz, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 4:30 pm, followed by services at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dr. Waltz’s honor are suggested to the University of Kansas Endowment for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., MS3012, Kansas City, KS 66160.
