James R. Johnson

James R. Johnson, age 89 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 15, 1921 in Crofton, Kentucky, son of the late James and Sarah (Alden) Johnson. James was a WWII veteran serving in the Marines. He attended Akron University working towards an engineering degree. James worked for Ohio Edison in Massillon as supervisor of the Massillon/Alliance substation division retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service. He was an active member of the Canton Baptist Temple and served faithfully in several capacities. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was also a skilled craftsman. Jim was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife, C. Marie Johnson whom he married on August 7, 1940; his children, Phyllis (Clifford) Wallon of The Villages, FL and Linda (Walt) Dayton of Massillon; his grandchildren, Michelle (Tom) Kohli, Beth (Jeff) Fink, Ken (Kristine) Delaney and Bryan Delaney; his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney, Jenna, Jacob, Brooklyn, Brianne and Kate. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Rev. Delaney Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canton Baptist Temple Missions Fund.
