James R. “Grandpa” Herman, age 71 of Massillon, died Friday, August 25, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on June 16, 1935 in Massillon and was the son of the late Jacob & Clara (Blanche) Herman. He was a lifelong area resident. He retired from the former Ohio Paper Products and was a member of Anchor Baptist Church. At different points of his life, he had been active with the Massillon Tiger Swing Band, the Massillon Little League, the Massillon Bowling Association and the Central States Retirees. He also enjoyed being a carrier for the Beacon Journal. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Goss) Herman, whom he married on September 12, 1964, his sons, John R. (Regina) Swihart of Copley, OH, James E. Herman and his friend Schanin and her son Gage Heisler, his twin daughters, Julie Herman and Jody (Brian) Herman Kraft both of Canal Fulton, his grandchildren, John R. Swihart, Jr., Megan Rivera and Kennedy Kraft, his sister Joyce Loomis of Massillon, his brother Louis Herman of Barberton, OH and special friends Joe & Nancy Hoffner of Massillon. Funeral services will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with Dr. Mark Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 P.M. and on Tuesday one hour before the service.
