James R. Covey, Sr., 74 of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at his residence. James was born on July 6, 1943 in Massillon, the son of the late Harry and Anna (Bartko) Covey. He was a lifelong resident of Massillon and a United States Army National Guard veteran. Jim worked for ECKO Housewares for 34 years where he served as the Union President for many years. Jim will be remembered for being fun loving and outgoing. He coached t-ball and little league baseball, basketball and football. Jim loved tinkering and engineering in his garage. He was a lifelong Bengals and Massillon Tigers fan. He was proud of his daughter, who retired in the Military and his four grandchildren who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James R. Covey, Jr. and James J. Covey, Sr. his brother, Donald Covey. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Montooth) Covey, whom he shared 35 years together; his children, De Ann (Jeff Williams) Covey and Susan Covey, Duane (Kim) Perry, Jeffrey (Sandy) Perry, and Frank Hill; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Ann Covey. A Celebration of James’s life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home.
