James L. Walter Sr. age 76 of Massillon passed away Friday April 17, 2009 at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon. He was born December 6, 1932 in Massillon to the late Wesley & Grace (Lonas) Walter. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School. Jim served in the Army and received an honorable discharge. He was a field engineer for Bell-Atlantic working on computer systems, and retired in 1998. He was known for his kindness and generosity to his family and friends. His leisure time was spent on his farm and golfing. His memberships include AmVets, VFW and Eagles. In addition to his parents, his wife Rosemary (Eslich) Walter passed away in 2001 and a brother Richard Walter in 1982. He is survived by three sons and daughters in law: James L & Valerie Walter Jr. of Pataskala, John L. Walter of Columbus and Joseph L. & Amy Walter of Delaware, a granddaughter Rosemary and his devoted canine companion Missy. Funeral service will be 1 PM Tuesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, the Rev. Philip A. Stoll will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Friends may call 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family would appreciate contributions to the Stark County Humane Society or Salvation Army.
