James L. Arner, 83, of Massillon, passed away on October 15, 2021 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. He was born on October 25, 1937 in Massillon to the late Glenn and Mary (Nevel) Arner. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after 6 years of faithful service. James worked for UPS as a truck driver where he retired after 35 years and also where he acquired his great sense of direction. This skill made him an excellent employee for several car dealerships in the area where he worked as a part runner and also an employee at Miday’s Nursery which was one of his favorite jobs. At the nursery, James was their go-to-person. He had several tasks there whether it was cutting the grass, or delivering mulch, or watering the flowers and plants, he was there to do it all. His delivery routes throughout the years made him a familiar face in the community and how he met so many people. James was also a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, a member of the V.F.W., AMVETS Post 6, K. of C. 554, Teamster Local 92 Retiree Club, as well as the American Patriot’s Club. James had a passion for farming, especially caring for horses. He was also an avid bowler and most recently loved keeping his mind sharp by doing jigsaw puzzles. He was most importantly a dedicated husband, father and a loving papa. He is survived by his two daughters, Valerie (Jon) Krause and Lynn Arner; grandsons Patrick (Larissa) Pizzino and Kyle (Skylar) Pizzino; and great-grandsons Anthony, Chase and Jaxon Pizzino. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Louise Arner and his brother Glenn Arner. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 9am to 9:45am at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church and final resting place will be St. Joseph Cemetery.
