James “Jimmy” J. Somogy Jr., age 71 of Massillon, Ohio, passed away suddenly on June 5, 2021. Jimmy was born on April 4, 1950, in Massillon to James and Donna (Owens) Somogy Sr. He graduated from Washington High School and proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Jimmy retired after 38 years from Ecodyne MRM and acted as a Union Stewart while there. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, Oriole's Nest and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon. Jimmy enjoyed watching sports, including the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Massillon Tigers. He enjoyed grilling and cooking for his friends and family and was famous for his wedding soup. He also enjoyed carpentry and gardening. Jimmy loved animals, especially his dogs, Sable, Edison, and Precious and his bird, Sam. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathy and son, Michael. As well as Aaron, sisters, Linda, Jean, and Jane, grandchildren, Dylan and Rayna, father-in-law, Sam, brother-in-law, Sammy, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may come to call on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Paquelet Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Per Jim’s wishes, he and the family ask that casual attire including jeans be worn at the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DAV in Massillon, and/or the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
