James “Jim” M. Gannon, age 73, of Massillon passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. He was born on September 19, 1945, the son of the late William and Margaret (Toth) Gannon. He was a 1963 graduate of Washington High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Stark State. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam where he earned his National Defense Service Medal. He later worked for the Public Defender’s office and at the Timken Company. He was a professional pool player and regularly attended Fiddlestix in Canton where he practiced his billiard skills; he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his grandsons. He also loved watching the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and Massillon Tigers. He would attend the Massillon Tiger football games with his grandsons and they would also go to the movies together followed by eating at their favorite restaurant, the Golden Coral. Jim will be remembered as a fun loving guy, who enjoyed the occasional practical joke and making people laugh. He will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Jennifer Gannon and son-in-law Frank Cvetkovich; his grandchildren Brandon Cribbs and Christopher Pallerine; his sister Joyce (David) Messaris; childhood best friend James Holderbaum; cousin Matthew Toth and nieces Lisa Esberger and Kelly Carpenter; as well as a host of family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his former wife of 10 years, Susie Singleton, his sister Joanne Gannon and his parents William and Margaret (Toth) Gannon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon at 10:30AM. Fr. Edward Gretchko will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 6-8p.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on February 14, 2019 at 1p.m. In lieu flowers donations can be made to the family to defray funeral expenses.
