James E. Dean, age 82, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 23, 2014. Jim was born on September 2, 1931 in Canton to the late William and Ina Dean. He married Nancy on June 08, 1973 and they shared nearly 41 years together and she survives him. Jim served his country in United States Navy for 20 years, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He retired as the Chief of Police for the Village of Hills and Dales and was later a Bailiff for the Massillon Courts and the Chief of Security at Brookside Country Club. Jim was an Artist working in pen and ink and watercolors and was one of the founding members and past president of the Canton Artists League. Jim was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles McKinley Aerie # 2370, American Legion Post #221 – Massillon and Stark County Police Chiefs Association. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his children James E. Dean Jr., Donna (Tim) Holt, Kelly (Joe) Casey and Jason (Jacquelynn) Dean; his grandchildren Daniel & Katie Casey, Ava, Alexis, Jackson and Aiden Dean and Amber Talbot and Becky (Joel) Sheffield; 5 great grandchildren; his sisters Pat (Don) Jones, Barb (Carl) Martin and Dottie (Dave) Cordea and his brother and sister-in-law Glen and Jan Schaffert, and a host of nieces, nephews and good friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and grandsons James L. Dean, Jonathan and Joshua Dean. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 2 P.M. Rev. Eldon Trubee officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 and an hour prior to the service.
