James H. "Smiley" Pope

James H. "Smiley" Pope, 74, of Navarre, passed away on October 3, 2022.

He was born on July 12, 1948 to the late William and Eva (Gehring) Pope in Dover.

Jim retired from The Timken Company after 33 years.

He was a former owner of The Dundee Grill and a member of the VFW and Shady Rest Army Navy. He also enjoyed playing guitar, singing, riding his Harley, played baseball in his youth and was an avid fan of Cleveland Baseball.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Karen (Tim) Stutz, Cheri (Brian) Thompson and Melanie (Kevin VanKirk) Pope; brother, Dan (Ida) Pope; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Justice) Heter, Gino and Julie Schupbach; great-grandson, Jayce; and sister-in-law, Ann Gillenwater.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Barbara Gish, Larry, Fred and Richard Pope; and his companion of 20 years, Linda "Mildred" Delbrugge.

A private family gathering will be held.
