James Elder, age 62, of Massillon passed away Tuesday. He was born on September 6, 1943 in Athens, Georgia to the late Buddy and Jimmie Lou (McRay) Edwards. After graduating from WHS, he entered the service with his brother, Carlton Elder. James returned from the service and began working for Republic Steel where he retired after 30+ years. James loved to fish, play pool, listen to baseball and play bingo. James was also a huge fan of the Browns, the Indians and the Tigers. James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1st and 2nd wives, Donna and Lillie, his brothers, Isaac and Robert Elder; and his sisters, Doris Hood and Willie Mapp. Survived by daughters, Tammy and Seith Toney of Canton, Tiffany Elder of Canton; son, James Elder of South Carolina, Jamey and Misty Elder of Canton, Jermaine Elder of Canton, Jarron Elder of Massillon; sisters, Louise and Alton Trammell of Massillon, Alberta Chavers of California, Shirley and Leroy Alexander of Michigan; brothers, Carlton Elder of Canton, Vernon and Karen Edwards of Massillon; 14 grandchildren; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. A very special thanks and appreciation to Cynthia who we love so dearly. There will be a home going service on Monday at noon at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Friends may call from 10:30-noon on Monday.
