James D. Mitchell

August 3, 1942 — February 24, 2010

James D. Mitchell, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton. He was born on August 3, 1942 in Massillon. The son of the late Floyd and Dorothy Mitchell, Jim was a truck driver, a top salesman for Bob Evans Farms and Nickels Bakery, and was a former police officer for Canal Fulton. He was Past Master of Elliott Lodge F. & A. M., in Canal Fulton, a member of Tadmor Shrine, Scottish Rite, and United Church of Christ in Navarre. Jim enjoyed camping, riding his Harley, and baking. Every holiday he would make sugar cookies and joke that he was the “room mom” when he helped with school parties. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Mitchell II, grandson, Justin Mitchell and sister, Virginia Klick. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Chapel Hill for the wonderful care provided to him. He is survived by his children, Ashlee and Megan (finance Chris Breda) Mitchell of Navarre and Connie (Bob) Bush of SC; daughter-in-law, Jean Mitchell of Jackson Township; four grandsons, and one granddaughter; his ex-spouse Barb Blowers of Massillon. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday at 1:00 P.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Final resting place will be at Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Rev. Sandra Hutchinson and Pastor John Bartos will be officiating. Friends may call the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5 P.M. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Clinton Lodge #47 will hold a Masonic service on Sunday at 1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to Chapel Hill Community.
