James C. Myricks, age 82 transitioned from his earthly home on September 25, 2015. He was born Massillon on November 01, 1932 to the late William and Lessie (Walker) Myricks. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School, recently celebrating his 65th class reunion. He proudly served his country in U.S. Army in the Korean War receiving a Purple Heart at the battle of Pork Chop Hill. He was the Chief Custodian at Fawcett Stadium, Field House and C.T. Branin Natatorium retiring in 1993. He was an Elder of over 50 years at Union Baptist Church; a member of the American Legion #44, the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club and the past president of the Hill Street Gang. He will forever be remembered as a kind, caring and sincere person who was always ready to lend a helping hand. James is survived by his daughter Denise L. Myricks; his son Dalon K. (Malleri) Myricks; His special friend and longtime companion Thelma R. Hatchett; his grandson Joshua (Adrienne) Johnson; a great-granddaughter Naomi Johnson; his brothers Robert (Norma) Walker and Jim Miller; sister Camine Outerbridge both of New York; his aunts Lucille Clark and Mary Frances Furlow; his god children Zelda, Eric, Violet and Orlando Hatchett. Longtime friends Willie Jowes and Dean Prophet as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Union Baptist Church in Canton on Thursday, October 01, 2015. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Donations in James' memory can be made to Union Baptist Church.
