James Allen McLaughlin, 78, of Jackson Township, passed away on September 23, 2024. Born August 3, 1946, Jim lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep love for the outdoors.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Farrenkopf) McLaughlin; his son, Sean (Julia) McLaughlin of Hartville; his daughter, Maureen (Patrick) Ater of Canton; and his greatest pride and joy—his grandchildren, Colin and Claire McLaughlin, and Audrey, Grace, and Evelyn Ater. He is also survived by his brother, Patrick McLaughlin of Sandusky.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty McLaughlin, and his brother, Michael McLaughlin.
He was a proud Navy veteran and built a successful career as a district manager and engineer for AT&T (formerly Ohio Bell), where he was known for his leadership and dedication.
An avid outdoors man, Jim spent countless hours hunting and fishing, finding peace in nature. His passions also extended to vintage audio collecting and cars. He was a skilled potter and carpenter.
Jim’s life was a testament to hard work, family values, and the simple pleasures of life well-lived. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held Monday, September 30 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Canton, followed by services at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either The Wilderness Center Tree of Life (//wildernesscenter.org/donate) or the North Lawrence Fish & Game Club (PO Box 41, North Lawrence, OH 44666).
