James W. Alder, age 57, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at Massillon Affinity Hospital on Monday, March 8, 2010. He is survived by his siblings, John Bradbury Alder (Ella) of Fairbanks, AK; Margaret A. Brunyansky (David) of North Canton; Jane K. A. Dinsmoor (Bill) of Aspen, CO, Robert Currier Alder (Angie) of Canton, and Eugene McCollister Alder of Aspen, CO. “Uncle Jimmy” also leaves nine nephews and nieces, Vanessa, Terry, Robin, Dale, Jonathan, Erin, Julie, Ryan, and Mari, 17 great (and great-great) nephews and nieces. Jim was born in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Bradbury C. and Eleanor (Smith) Alder. He graduated from Washington High School in 1970 and attended Mount Union College, before beginning a career as computer specialist, a career that took him eventually to NASA’s Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX where he worked for many years. He enjoyed entertaining with and being entertained by magic, fishing, golf, computers, and travel, particularly to Las Vegas and the Big Easy’s Mardi Gras. Calling hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, at Paquelet Funeral Home at 1100 Wales Road N. E., Massillon, Ohio. A memorial service will follow. A private interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org).
