James A. Robertson

October 17, 1930 — May 20, 2017

James A. (Jim) Robertson went home to be with his Lord and Savior May 20, 2017 after a brief illness. Jim was born in Conneaut, Ohio on October 17, 1930 to Rev. Herbert and Ethel (Slagle) Robertson. In his early years the family moved to Massillon where he attended grade school and Washington High School. The family moved to Canton, Ohio before his senior year of high school where he graduated from McKinley High School in 1949. He married his Massillon High School sweetheart Emily Hose on Thanksgiving Day November 23rd 1950. Jim served during the Korean War spending 18 months in Germany. Shortly thereafter “Robbie” began his 33 year career with the United States Postal Service. He was a letter carrier for many of those years later to become and retire as Supervisor of Postal Operations. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, brothers Thomas and Rev. Herbert Robertson. He is survived by his wife Emily (Hose) Robertson of 66 years. His sister Marjorie Mayle of Mt. Gilead, Ohio and his brother Paul (Delores) of Indiana, Pa. His son Mark (Holly); daughter, Barrett (Thomas) Ault and their children Bryson and Hattie of Lewis Center, Ohio; son, John Robertson of Massillon; daughter, Cathy (Nick) Vidovich of Massillon; sons, Nicholas (Kate) Vidovich of Columbus, Ohio; Alexander (Kelly Bonifant) Vidovich; their sons, Carson and Maxton Vidovich of Massillon and Samuel Vidovich also of Massillon; son, Daniel (Jennifer) Robertson of Chardon, Ohio ; son, Sean Robertson of Fort Myers, Florida and daughter, Savannah Robertson of Columbus, Ohio. Jim was a member of the Massillon Lions Club for over 30 years, served on the Board of the Salvation Army and was an Asst. Scout Leader of Troop 16 of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. He was an active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ and served on many boards within the church. He will be dearly missed by his beloved dog Toby. Calling hours will be Wednesday May 24th from 10-12 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 101 Tremont St. With memorial and Lions Club service to follow. Burial will be performed at Rose Hill Cemetery, Jackson Twp. following the services. There will be a gathering to follow at 2pm at St. Johns UCC. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
