Jack Raymond Hood

November 27, 1927 — February 19, 2025

Perry Township

Jack Raymond Hood, 97, of Perry Township, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Jack was born in Smithfield, PA, November 27, 1927, the son of the late Herschel and Helen (Miller) Hood.

As a teenager, Jack moved with his family to Massillon. He graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and four years later from Kent State University. He served his country in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany. Jack spent much of his adult life in education and thoroughly enjoyed teaching his students. His impact transcended the classroom as many of his students maintained a relationship with him well into their adult years.

Jack enjoyed traveling with his family and took every opportunity to do so. They visited all 50 states and all 7 continents. They experienced the beauty of the world, and he captured it all on film.

Jack was fascinated with clocks. He had a vast collection of them. He opened a repair shop called 8:20 Clock Shop. He was able to pursue his passion while repairing clocks for people. His eye for beauty went beyond clocks and photos. He also was an antique furniture dealer and had a deep appreciation for classical music.

Whether it be in education and clock repair, Jack improved life around him. His impact will not be forgotten and his legacy in others will live on.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Hood, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; children, Sarah Eddy, and Mark (Rachel) Hood; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gloria Elasky, Flo Gearig, Herschel Hood, Terry Hood, and Dolly Braid.
