Jack Byron Robinson July 26, 1928 - January 9, 2023
At age 94, Jack Byron Robinson joined the Lord from the comfort of The Inn at Northwood Village on January 9, 2023. He was born in Massillon, OH to Irvin and Carrie (Ielsch) Robinson, lovingly referred to as Chick and Carrie. He enjoyed 70 years of marriage with his wife, Elaine Smith.
Jack was a strong Christian, family man, carpenter, integral church member, creative mind, and avid joke teller. He was a self-employed carpenter and craftsman, the proud owner of American Country Reproductions, Jack Robinson Builder, and Robinson Brothers Builders, alongside his brother, Tom. He worked for Associated Church Builders, constructing four different churches in Ohio, his first being his home church, Calvary Chapel. He and his wife, Elaine loved their 5 children and he always found opportunities for them to join his creative endeavors.
Starting small with building dollhouses and toys, to ornate furniture and construction, Jack had a passion for bringing his ideas to life. He was known for his “secret compartments” in furniture and was a favorite crafts person at Yankee Peddler for many years, traveling the country east to west and thrilling adults and kids with his stilts, ladders, and fine furniture. He taught several classes in his garage on dovetailing to people in the area. In 2002, he was even given Dickey’s “American Worker of the Year” award for his efforts, receiving a new truck on stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
His Christian faith was an essential part of his life. Using his servant’s heart, Jack was one of the founding members of Calvary Chapel in 1964, in Massillon, OH. He also spent a great deal of time serving on the church Board and as an Elder for many years.
He was a fun-loving member of the community. He began and participated in Calvary Chapel’s annual “Night in Bethlehem” nativity reenactment, using both his craftsmanship for sets and performing in his shepherd role. He was admired for his construction of a detailed Noah’s Ark small-scale model. Jack played & marched in Drum & Bugle Corps in Massillon. He enjoyed many years of late night volleyball games at Massillon YMCA, followed by laughter-filled dinners at Frieg's. He loved traveling amongst his friends and wife, Elaine. They ventured to Israel and across Europe, enjoying the art and architecture alongside loving company. His adventures lived on in stories for years to come.
His passion and hard-work have impacted more lives than we will ever know and his legacy will live on in his woodwork and through Calvary Chapel. Jack Robinson will be greatly missed.
