J. Richard "Dick" Hadnett

J. Richard “Dick” Hadnett, age 93, of Jackson Township, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021. Dick was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1945. He entered the Army Air Corps upon graduation and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations in the Marshall Islands on Kwajalein Atoll in World War II. Upon discharge he enrolled at The Ohio State and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1950. He was a member of several honorary fraternities: Phi Eta Sigma (Freshman), Beta Alpha Psi (accounting), Delta Sigma Pi (Business College), and Delta Gamma Sigma (National Scholastic Honorary). Upon graduation from OSU, he joined the General Electric Co. and was employed there for 21 years in various financial management positions and assignments in Massachusetts, North Carolina, New York, and Arizona. After he returned to Ohio in 1971, he was employed as Assistant Corporate Controller at the Addressograph Multigraph Corp., Vice President of Finance, and Treasurer of McNeil Corp. in Akron, Ohio, and Vice President of Quality Services and Information Management at Akron Children’s Hospital until his retirement in 1994. Dick served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committees of Akron General Medical Center and Goodwill Industries of Akron in the 1980’s. He also a volunteer at The House of Loreto nursing home for 15 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a Life Member of OSU Alumni Association, a supporter of the University and a season football ticket holder for 50 years. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Sarah (Dignan), his brother William Hadnett and sister-in-law Betty Hadnett, brother Wilfred Hadnett and sister-in-law Kathy Hadnett, special daughter-in-law, Tina Hadnett, and cousin Monsignor Arthur Rawden. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha (Hilton) Hadnett, his sons, Mark (Deb) Hadnett, John (Zhixian) Hadnett both of the Seattle area, and Paul (Melissa) Hadnett, of Jackson Township. Martha’s children Laurie Redilla of Chesapeake, VA and David (Jen) Simkanin of Medina, Ohio. Grandchildren, Richard Hadnett, Andrew and Colleen Redilla, Sean Hadnett, Katie, Elizabeth, and Abbie Simkanin and The Reitz Family of Columbus, Ohio. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at North Lawn Cemetery in Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House of Loreto (2812 Harvard Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44709) or Akron Children’s Hospital (214 W. Bowery Street, Akron, Ohio 44308).
