Isabel Bigelow McFadden, age 93, of Massillon, passed away on January 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. Isabel was born on March 29, 1919, in Buffalo, Kansas, to the late Nelson and Margaret Bell Bigelow. After high school, she briefly toured the West on her own. While working with the Rural Electrification Administration in St. Louis during World War II, she met Bob McFadden at the U.S.O. They married in New Orleans in 1944. They arrived in Massillon in 1948. She helped operate Bob McFadden's Laundry and Dry Cleaning before taking a job as secretary to the Canton Chief of Police. Bob and Isabel traveled throughout the United States. After his passing, she continued to travel with family and friends for many years. An accomplished watercolor artist, Isabel was known for her miniature Amish paintings, which she sold in galleries in Ohio's Holmes County and Minnesota, the Massillon Museum shop, and the Massillon Woman's Club shop. Isabel was an active volunteer at the Massillon Museum for five decades, serving on the Woman's Board and chairing the Sidewalk Show. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Massillon Club, Massillon Woman's Club, and Westark Republican Women. She played bridge with several groups of friends. In addition to her husband, Isabel was preceded in death by her six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Monty (Randi Altland) McFadden of Richmond, Virginia; her daughter, Margy (Joel) Vogt of Massillon; grandson Stephen (Amy) Vogt of Brecksville; granddaughter Stefanie McFadden (Ty) Toepke of Richmond; grandson Trent (Christi) McFadden of Richmond, and their children, Ashley and Bowen.
