Ilma Agnes Dowell

Ilma A. Dowell, age 101, of Massillon, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at home. She was born in Jackson, Ohio, February 10, 1911, the only child of James Harley and Othella (Whetsel) Lloyd. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Lloyd Dowell, who died in 1998, and grandson Daniel Houston in 2007. Ilma is survived by her loving family: daughters Barbara (John) Wienke of Massillon, and Doris (Bill) Critzer of Findlay, OH; four grandchildren: Jim (Cathy) Houston Jr, Jane (Ron) Fetrow, Judy Houston and David (Brenda) Houston; step-grandchildren: Steve (Norma) Wienke, David (Trish) Wienke, Jim (Madge) Wienke, and 6 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. After graduating from the Ohio State University in 1933, she was a teacher in Grove City, Ohio until her marriage in 1936. After World War II, they moved to Massillon in 1946 where they started his medical practice. Ilma has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Massillon since 1946. She was also a 60+ year member of the Massillon Women's Club. She was a talented seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, doing cross-word and jig-saw puzzles, being with her family, and was an avid fan of the Massillon Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:00am with the Service to follow at 11:00am at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon.
