Howard H Hake

Massillon

Howard H. Hake, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away December 3, 2024, in Kettering, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Born on March 24, 1947, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Howard's journey was one marked by a deep commitment to God, his family, his work, and his community.

After obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Tri-State College in Indiana (1969), Howard began his career at Cessna in Wichita, Kansas, where he spent two years and got his license to fly. He then obtained a Master's degree in Engineering Mechanics at Kansas University (1974). He subsequently fulfilled the requirements for licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE). In 1973, Howard began his 30 year career as a Test Engineer “breaking stuff” at International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He moved to Antioch, Illinois in 1975, where he continued with the company, which over the years underwent various name changes and acquisitions, becoming Dresser, Haulpak, and eventually Komatsu. In 1992, Howard relocated to Peoria, Illinois, where he remained for 11 years. After an initial retirement, he moved to Northeast Ohio and joined JLG in Orrville, where he dedicated 13 more years of service, concluding his professional career as a Test Engineer.

Howard's life was not solely defined by his work; he was also a faithful family man. He married the love of his life, Pat Furrey, on November 1, 1969. After they were married, they had two children, Paul and Lori. He cherished the moments spent during family camping vacations and road trips across the country, creating lasting memories at national parks and historical landmarks.

Outside of his family life, Howard had an engaging personality that delighted everyone around him. He was renowned for his dad jokes and a great sense of humor that brought joy and laughter during even the simplest gatherings. Howard's selflessness and generous spirit extended beyond his family; he lent his kindness to friends, church members, and anyone in need of help.

His early years were profoundly influenced by the Boy Scouts and his budding interest in aviation. As an adult Howard participated in short term mission trips. More recently, Howard enjoyed biking and took pride in leading a group called Higher Gear, where he and his wife, Pat, organized biking trips for church members. Howard also loved volunteering as a Tour Guide at the MAPS Air Museum in Canton, Ohio, sharing his love for aviation with others.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife Pat Hake; his children Paul Hake (Dana, deceased) of Dunlap, IL and Lori Hake of South Korea; and his cherished grandchildren Jaden Hake, Jesse Hake, and Jonas Hake. He is also remembered by his brother Dan F. Conrad of Marquette Michigan, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Jan Furrey, and Rosemary and Gary Shannon, alongside five nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry fond memories of his warmth and laughter.

Howard was a follower of Jesus and would like to see everybody in Heaven with him. His life was dedicated to the importance of family and being a faithful Christ follower, and he will be deeply missed by all. A visitation will be held on December 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at Faith Family Church in North Canton, Ohio, where family and friends will come together to honor his life.
