Homer Spencer

April 21, 1928 — August 12, 2007

Homer Spencer was born on April 21, 1928 in Booneville, Mississippi to the late Thomas and Zattie Spencer. Homer and family relocated to Massillon in the year 1952. He worked at Republic Steel and retired in 1991 after 33 years of service. Homer also did various jobs in the community. Many people were touched by his willingness to help anybody he could. Homer was always there with words of encouragement or a scripture to uplift the weary. His heartfelt ways will be greatly missed. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He departed this life on Sunday morning, August 12, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, Roger and W.C. Spencer; sisters, Pauline James and Bernice Miller; grandchild, Latia Spencer. He became a Christian under the leadership of Elder Keeton and served faithfully as a trustee and minister of the Full Gospel Temple Holiness Church of Christ. He is loved and remembered by wife, Edna Spencer and seven children; Marie Hall of Booneville, MS, Robert Spencer of Columbus, OH, Jerry (Lydia) Spencer Sr., Willie Spencer Sr., Ricky Spencer of Massillon, OH, Ronnie (Karen) Spencer of Hampton, VA and Linnett Spencer of Canton, OH. He also leaves to cherish is memory siblings; Cecil Spencer of Detroit, MI, Armatha Booth of St. Louis, MO, Herschel Spencer and Roosevelt (Marvalene) Spencer of Booneville, MS, Billy (Loretta) Spencer of Canton, OH and Bobby Spencer of Charleston, MO.; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, August 17th, at 12:00 P.M. (noon) at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1111 – 3rd Street S.E., Massillon, OH.
