Henry F. Leitner, 94, of Massillon, passed away on March 19, 2023 at The Laurels of Massillon.

He was born on March 23, 1928 to the late Frank and Sara Leitner in Canton.

A graduate of Lincoln High School and Kent State University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in music, Henry was a veteran of The United States Navy.

Henry was a band director for North Canton City Schools, taught private music lessons and played in several bands around the area.

He was a member of American Federation of Musicians, Canton Local 111, played in the Canton Community Band, and the Stark County Fair Band. Henry was an adjudicator at North East Ohio Educators Solo and Ensemble contest. He was very involved in the music community. He loved to camp, riding his motorcycle, cars and enjoyed working outdoors in his yard. Henry also loved to travel to the ocean. He was a dedicated family man.

Henry is survived by his loving children, Lynn E. Leitner and David H. Leitner; and grandchild, Ava P. Leitner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen M. (Haney) Leitner; and siblings, Frieda Dodge, Margaret DeCamp, Betty Bremkamp and William Leitner.

The family will gather at St. Pauls's Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 2:00pm - 3:00pm with a Memorial Celebration to start at 3:00pm with Rev. Mark Kreemer, officiating.

Inurnment will take place in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The Akron Canton Food Bank.
