HELEN SHOWERS 1918 – 2016 97 YEARS OF LOVE Our hearts are broken. We have lost our Aunt Honey. If you did not know this remarkable woman, you missed a true blessing from God. There are no words to describe how wonderful Helen Showers was to everyone she knew. Her husband Russ put her on a pedestal when he married her and she stayed there for 63 years of marriage. Though never blessed with children of her own, God made sure to fill her life with nieces and nephews that adored her and showered her with love. What we gave to her she returned ten times over back to us. Aunt Honey was loving, caring to others, gentle, stubborn, unselfish, a true food lover, compassionate, fun, double gentle and devoted to her husband and family above all else. Her life's passion was nursing. The first half of Helen's life was spent nursing in one form or another. During World War II, she was a nurse in Germany. In later years, she was a nursing instructor at Aultman Hospital as well as Massillon City Hospital. She retired from Massillon School of Nursing in 1983. The remainder of her years were spent living life to the fullest. Winters spent in Florida, weddings, Leesville, birthdays, new babies and travel filled the years. Many, many fun trips with family that included beautiful hotels, nice restaurants and sometimes a plane or a train ride. In the car Honey did the maps! She collected beautiful cut glass and she was an avid journal keeper. Helen "Honey" Showers passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. She spent her last days in her home surrounded by love and family. Russ kept her very close to him till the end. "Heaven doesn't have a pair of wings big enough for this angel." Helen is survived by her loving husband, Russell F. Showers of Massillon. A brother, John Faulds and a sister, Jean Ilg also survive her. There are nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews too numerous to mention. She was a loving mother to them all and could rattle off every single name and birthday. Calling hours are Monday, February 15th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Paquelet in Massillon. Services are Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Paquelet. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Massillon.
