Helen Margaret (Baxter) George, age 80 of Jackson Township, died on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Canton, Ohio on August 17, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Sylvia (Evans) Baxter. She was a lifelong area resident. Helen Margaret had worked as a waitress at the Avalon Drive-In restaurant on W. Tusc. where she met Kenny. She also worked part time at Mergus’s in downtown Canton and the former Bali Hai restaurant in Perry Township. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Massillon and sang with the Lincoln Ladies at many of their events. She was a volunteer at Massillon Community Hospital and also delivered Meals on Wheels for over 15 years. She loved to spend the winter months at the 2nd home in Honolulu, Hawaii where she was a member Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and sang in their choir. She also enjoyed hula dancing with her “Hula Sisters” Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Valorie Kay George in 1995. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth E. George, whom she married on June 27, 1948, her daughter, Rhoda Sue Rohr of Huntington, Beach, CA and many, many cousins. A service to celebrate the life of Helen Margaret George will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home and on Wednesday one hour before the service at the church.
