Helen Mae Blunt

Helen Mae Blunt , age 93 of Massillon passed away July 16, 2012 in Massillon. She was born on July 8, 1919 to the late William Delanzo and Jamie Mae (Wright) Veazey, both of Atlanta, GA. She moved to Massillon, Ohio after high school in 1942; thereafter she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Freddy 'Pokey' Blunt and to this union two sons were born. After several years of motherhood she continuely served the State of Ohio at the Massillon State Hospital where she held a career position as a Nurse's Aide. After 30 years of service with the Massillon State Hospital she retired to her hobbies. Helen loved to travel and she enjoyed bowling, walking, and reading. Her joy for reading was foundational for her hobby as a collector of coins, vintage glassware, and antiques. Helen was a Charter Member of the Franklin Mint Collectors Society of Philadelphia, PA and an active member of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association. Her two sisters Rosa L. Pearson (Charley) of Atlanta, Ga; Willie-Thelma Lawson (Tommy) of Philadelphia, Pa. and two brothers Dan Mitchell, and Leroy Willis and one daughter Jean Lois Sumlin (Roy) of Atlanta, Ga. preceded Helen in death. On Monday July 16th, 2012 our beloved closed her eyes to rest in peace. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons Freddy 'Al' Blunt, Jr. of Clarksburg, MD; Wallace R. Blunt of Massillon, Ohio and two brothers John Mitchell of Philadelphia, Pa, and Thomas Willis of Atlanta, Ga, and an extended family of nine grandchildren: Leroy, Larry, Lawrence, Marsalina, Melvin, Shirley, Amesha, Alphonzo, and Corey, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren along with a host of friends near and far. A Celebration of Helen Blunt's life will be 11 AM Friday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Rev. Reginald Hye will officiate. Burial will be at Massillon Cemetery.
