Helen E. Popa

Helen E. Popa, age 98 of Massillon passed away New Year's Day. She was born June 2, 1916 in Canton to the late George & Victoria (Angel) Popdavid. Helen was raised in Canton and moved to Massillon in 1941. Helen was active in the church; In 2005 she received the 'Schrader Award for outstanding service to St. Joseph Church'. An accomplished seamstress, she made the family quilts and clothes. She was preceded in death by her husband George (1989), a son George D. (2008) and a grandson Jeffrey (2009). Helen is survived by three children: Daniel (Bonnie) Popa, Helen 'Nutzi' (Jack) Stover, Vicki Bortz; daughter in law Celeste Popa. There are ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. The family wishes to recognize her special friend, Brenda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Monday from 10 AM until 11 AM. Memorials can be made to St. Joseph Soup Kitchen or Aultman Hospice.
