Helen E. Franchini

Helen E. Franchini, 86, of Massillon, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 19, 1935 in Holyoke, MA to the late Andrew and Mary (Kertis) Homrok. Helen was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Frank Franchini, her loving son Danny Franchini and siblings Andrew Homrok and Mary Lapierre. Helen graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT. After moving to Massillon with her husband, Helen raised her 7 children and then went back to school so she could work at the former Doctor’s Hospital. She had a well-established career there for many years. Her love for babies and sense of care and compassion made her an excellent pediatric nurse. Helen was so passionate about the kids and their happiness that during specific seasons or holidays, she would paint the windows on the pediatric floor. In addition to her dedication to her career, Helen was also a devout Catholic and very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon where she served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, member of the choir and frequently visited those who were sick. When she had time to spare, Helen loved all things of beauty; including art, her flowers in her garden, or finding treasures during her garage sales and antique trips. Helen was a very kind, generous, and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also loved by many friends who will deeply miss her. Helen is survived by her children Andrea Franchini, Susan Polumbo, Kathleen (Mikel) Heck, Dana (Darren) Cugno, Paula (Andrea) Miccinesi and Paul Franchini; siblings Catherine Homrok and John (Patricia) Homrok; grandchildren Emily, Samantha, Matthew, Frank, Nicholas, Mary, Tommaso and Sara; great-grandchildren Ruby and Briggs; and life-long family friend and caregiver Doyle Netzly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 7th at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will be private.
