Helen A. Wetzel

"Together Again" Helen A. Wetzel, 94, of Massillon, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Helen was born on November 4, 1927, in Fairhope, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Hambelton) Payne. She lived in the area since 1939. Helen worked as a home health aide. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and plastic crafting. Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Columbian Ladies, Women of the Moose, Stark County Gem and Mineral Club, Sociable CBers Club, and Girl Scouts of America for 37 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harrison Wetzel, son, Michael Moore, stepson, Harry Wetzel, stepdaughter, Alice Seese, and her brother, Donald Payne. She is survived by her children, Paula Gurney, and Richard (Suzanne) Moore; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. before the service.
