Harry Galen Powell died Friday, February 19, 2016 at the age of 82, after a brief illness at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio. Harry was born on December 13, 1933 in Salem, WV, to Galen and Wanda (Hill) Powell. He graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1951. Harry married Ruth Brissey on March 14, 1952. After moving to Massillon in 1953 Harry began working for Republic Steel Corp., where he became a roller on the Z-mill. He rolled stainless steel for the World Trade Center. After retiring with 30 years, Harry drove school bus for Massillon City Schools for ten years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelly Powell-Pisarski. He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Ruth, and children, Alva "Butch" (Cheryl) Powell of Navarre and Susan (James) Kaser of Massillon, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, his sisters, Grace Ruppert, Naomi (Brent) Johnson, Marlene Powell and Mary (Dean) Bailes, and his brother, Kenneth (Clodene) Powell. A Celebration of Harry's life will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. His nephew Rev. Darren Powell will be Officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. before the service.
