Harry Andrew Baecker

Harry Andrew Baecker, age 65 of Canton passed away Wednesday August 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born November 25, 1946 in Pittsburgh to the late A. David & Bette Ann (Metzger) Baecker. Drew was a graduate of Alliance High School and moved to Massillon. He was a former employee of Gardiner Trane, where he acquired his extensive computer skills. In 2001 he joined Swagelok through Compuware. He was a data base administrator working in Unix and Oracle operating systems. This extensive computer skill allowed Drew to own & operate Baecker & Associates for the past 35 years. Drew was the first Polio Victim in the 1949 outbreak in Stark County. He spent the next 14 years in Pittsburgh Childrens' Hospital having corrective surgery. He was an avid builder and collector of quarter scale model airplanes, which he flew and showed. With his friend Fred Eastman, they developed a remote start on these planes. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two siblings, Duane Baecker and Roxanne Bukach. Drew is survived by his wife, Jacki (Watson) Baecker with whom he shared 20 years of marriage on March 28th. He has five children, Troy Baecker, Eric (Ember) Baecker, Tina (Jason) Pitre, Annette Baecker and Scott Baecker; three step-daughters, Melody (Bill) McDougald, Jennifer Loshark and Katherine (Tom) Fisher; five surviving siblings, Donna Clark, David (Cindy) Baecker, Ronna (Michael) Anspach, Renee Zimmick and Rochelle (Sam) Crews; twelve grandchildren. A 'thank you' to Ashley, a granddaughter that has been a great comfort to him. Friends may call Saturday from 1 PM until 3 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Celebration of Drew's Life will be at 3 PM at the funeral with Kevin O'Brian to officiate. A reception will follow the service. The family would appreciate donations to the Stark County Humane Society. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for the care given to Drew and his family.
