Harold "Ted" Hardgrove, 87 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Ted was born in Canal Fulton to the late Leslie and Gertrude (Schembechler) Hardgrove. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Canal Fulton High School. Ted was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean and Cold War eras; and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. Ted received accommodations and decorations to include Expert Infantry Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge and Glider Wings. He was a member of the Electricians Local #540 retiring from WW Schaub Electric. He was former Jackson Twp. Fire Chief, retiring from Jackson Twp. Fire Department in 1975. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, the K of C #554, was a life member of the 82nd Airborne Association, the Ohio Fire Chief's Association, the American Legion, and FOE #190, Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Dale Hardgrove. He is survived by his wife Eilene (Blickenderfer) Hardgrove of 62 years of marriage; children and their spouses Debra (John) Goodlunis of FL, Rebecca (Michael) McElfresh of Lake Cable, and Todd (Sandra) Hardgrove; grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie), Matt (Monica), Brett (Rachel), and Casey (Jenn) McElfresh, Deanne Goodlunis and Michele Hardgrove; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters Elizabeth Gaudaur of Bucyrus and Janet Dodson of Canal Fulton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 by Fr. Edward Gretchko, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church and will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 128 Cherry Rd. N.E., Massillon, OH 44646 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at SS Philip & James Cemetery in Canal Fulton. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home: 1100 Wales Rd. N.E., Massillon, OH from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday from 10-10:30 a.m. Military and Fire Department Honor Guard will render proper honors before, during and after calling hours with the Stark County Firefighters Association Last Alarm Service to begin at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flower donations, Ted had a great passion for seeing that his great grandchildren continue to receive a Catholic school education and he requested that donations be made to St. Mary's School in his name directed for the tuition of his great grandchildren at St. Mary's School, 640 1st Street N.E., Massillon, OH 44646.
