Harold D. Derr, age 82 of Massillon, died on Monday, September 22, 2008 at Hanover House. He was born on May 29, 1926 in North Lawrence, Ohio and was the son of the late William and Geneva (Powell) Derr. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1978 he retired from Eaton manufacturing. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his great grandson David. He was a member of the Massillon Baptist Temple. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Charlene Sanders, his brother Earl Derr, his stepsons Ronald & Charles Ellison and two infant daughters. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alma Marie Derr of the home, his sons Harold D. Derr, Jr. of Missouri and Chuck Derr of Michigan, his daughter Vivian Woods of Missouri, his stepchildren, Pat (Ben) Collier and Bette (Fred) Cottrill both of Massillon his grandchildren, great grandchildren great great grandchildren and step grandchildren and his daughter in law Jane Ellison. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Thayer officiating. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday one hour before the service.
