Harley L. Christner, Sr. age 86 of Massillon, passed away Monday evening at Aultman Hospital following a 4 year battle with cancer. Harley was born in La Grange, Indiana on August 20, 1920 to the late Samuel and Mary (Schrock) Christner and lived in the Massillon area for over 60 years. He graduated from Orrville High School and was a WWII Army Veteran. Harley retired from Yellow Freight Systems in 1982 following several years of service as a truck driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post #221 in Massillon, Teamsters Local #92 in Canton and St. Barbara's Catholic Church. Harley enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and his tools. Everyone knew him as Mr. Fix It since he like to tinker on things until they worked. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by; his son, Harley L. Christner, Jr. who passed away in 1946 and a sister, Mae Herald. He is survived by his wife, Betty R. (Boak) Christner, with whom he would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on February 23, 2007, daughters and son-in-law; Cheryl L. Christner, Dianne and Bob Gresser, sons and daughters-in-law; Gary W. and Roseann Christner and Todd M. and Tina Christner all of Massillon, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating Harley's life will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the Arnold - Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Fr. Thomas Cebula officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday 5:00 - 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the services at the Arnold - Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Interment will follow the services at Brookfield Cemetery.
