H. LaRue Trotter (June 26, 1948-November 6, 2021) lived an extraordinary life of love, support, and inspiration to her family, friends, students, and community. Born in Bartow, Florida, she moved to Zion, Illinois at the age of twelve. She became a member of the Baptist Church, attended the city’s public schools, and later graduated from Zion Benton Township High School. LaRue was greatly influenced by her mothers-Gerrielean Tilllman and Ghele R. Mack and her grandmother Naomi Marshall, who inspired her love of theatre and the arts and introduced her to the world of work at nearby Fort Sheridan. LaRue earned her BA degree in English and theatre arts, at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she met her future husband. She married Joe William Trotter, Jr. in 1972. The couple enjoyed forty-nine years of love and companionship. She became an outstanding teacher at Bullen Junior High School in Kenosha; attended graduate school in theatre arts at the University of Minnesota; and took diverse teaching and administrative jobs at the University of Califomia-Davis, Chatham College, and Carnegie Mellon University. LaRue will be greatly missed, but the memory of her love and kindness will continue to inspire us in the days, months, and years ahead. She was preceded in death by her father Harold L. Mack, her mothers Gerrielean and Ghele, her sister Annette LaVern Mitchell, and brother Ulanda Bouie. LaRue also leaves behind her husband Joe; sisters and sisters-in-law Myna Shegog (Michael), Clynell LaJean Bouie, June LaNise Bouie Rogers, Eva Powell, Isalene Jackson, Bobbie Plenty, Doris Brown, Mecca Roeser, Jessie Trotter, Voncille Greene (Melvin), and Sakina Morse (John); brothers and brothers-in-law Malcolm Daniel Mack, Jerry Bouie, Otis Trotter (Pam), David Trotter, and Rahmaan Rasheed (Winona); cousins Bryan Anderson (Mary), Jeffrey Anderson (Belinda), Melvin Anderson, Jr., and Linda Tillman; and a host of nephews and nieces.
