H. Gene Thornberry

H. Gene Thornberry, 90, passed away on March 11, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born in Newcomerstown on August 8, 1928 to Harold and Mary (Foraker) Thornberry. Huck was a great pitcher in his youth and was once scouted by Major League Teams. He worked for Republic Steel, where he was the Recording Secretary of Local 1124, Steel Workers Union. After retiring, he spent some time in tropical Florida. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Harriette (Isbell) Thornberry, whom he married on August 5, 1950; children, Tommy Thornberry, Heidi Thornberry and companion, David Leather; grandchildren, Niki (Don) Klein and Dacey Thornberry; great-granddaughter, Vayda Mackenzie Eves and daughter-in-law, Linda Moore. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sons, Tim and Ted; and a sister, Margaret Weirich. Friends may call at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 6pm-8pm and on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 9:30am -10:30am with a funeral service to be held at 10:30am.
