December 28, 1924 — June 2, 2009

On Tuesday June 2, 2009 Gwendolyn M. Reiter, age 84, went home to be with the Lord after her second courageous battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. Gwen was born December 28, 1924 in Canton, the daughter of the late Wilton and Grace (Myers) Shank. She retired from Aultman Hospital in 1986 after 20 years of employment. On February 24, 1945 Gwen married Alvin F. Reiter and he preceded her in death on November 23, 1996. Gwen was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, going for ice cream, and was an avid Indians fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gwen is survived by daughters Vicki (Joel) Owens of Portage Lakes, and Michelle (Russell) Lee of Canal Fulton; sisters Nerrine Steigerwald of Perry Heights, Martha Wood of Canton, and Mary (Paul) Guidone of Louisville; brothers Tom (Jackie) Shank of N. Canton, and Ozzie Shank of Columbus; grandchildren Amanda (Tim) Barna, Molly (Shawn) Lazarus, Jared (Tara) Lee, and Alex Owens; great-grandchildren Avery and Aidan Barna, Olivia and Abram Lazarus. Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by brothers James, Richard, and William Shank, and sister Jean Weinstock. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Shank officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family would like to express their heart felt thanks to the angels of hospice, especially Kathy, Jane, and Sandy.
