Gregory Paul Godar was born on June 24th, 1959, to Charles and Barbara (Rininger) Godar. Greg was the middle child between sister Paula, brother Steven, and younger siblings Doug and Sandra. His siblings recognized his “bossy” management skills at an early age. He honed those skills in his professional career. His internal drive is evident in his children, Sean, Jenna, Erik and Grayson where he raised them lovingly, hands on, all the while coaching them as they matured. Many words could be used to describe him: genuine friend; problem solver; nonsolicitor of advice; jack of all trades- if he didn’t know the answer….he found it; resourceful; self taught; born leader; motivator; orchestrator of people; entrepreneur; inspiration to all, and would never let a good deal pass him by. Greg was intense, reliable and a connoisseur of good food, good wine, and good times! He discovered a love for cooking while working at Tangier’s, Anthe’s, Garner’s, Blondies, Bill Crocker’s and Guy’s Restaurant & Party Centre during his teens and 20s. His passion for baking evolved while he was the head chef at Guy’s Restaurant and Party Center. The opportunity to purchase Ideal Bakery presented itself at 25 yrs of age, and he plunged into the bread baking industry with a determined force where he successfully managed and expanded the business. In 2007, Greg met the love of his life, Lisa (Lyons), and together they set upon their life journey. Following the romantic proposal in Napa Valley, they married in 2009. Their life in Jackson Township is immersed in the community. Their family life involves golfing, skiing, and sports, and has been incredibly blessed and full of love. Entertaining with wine, food, fun, accompanied with love, was their shared vision. This was experienced often by friends and family alike. Greg and Lisa continued to pursue love and faith for the totally fulfilled life that they planned together. Greg passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on January 27, 2022, after a true grit battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his sister Paula and granddaughter, Gia, Greg is survived by his wife Lisa (Lyons); Children Sean, Jenna, Erik and Grayson; Grandson, Brody; Parents Charles and Barbara (Rininger) Godar; In-Laws Roger and Sue Lyons; Brothers Steven, (Kim); Doug; Sister Sandra Johnson; Special nieces, Courtney, (Tom) Sutton and Lindsey, (Jamie) Allman; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Remembering Greg: “Some men make unmistakably clear to themselves and to the universe- that they love the universe but are not intimidated by it, and that is how they live their life. They demand something from themselves (in their love, in their work and other things) that is the demonstration of that abiding belief.”
