Gloria Sloan

Gloria Sloan, age 91 of Massillon passed away February 26, 2016. Gloria was born September 4, 1924 in Ashland, OH to the late Harry & Mary (Burdick) Eaton. She was a graduate of Ashland University and had been a kindergarten teacher. In March 1947 she married Merrill 'Bud' Sloan. When Bud Sloan was appointed manager of Ohio Water Service in 1968 and they moved to Massillon. Her passion was playing bridge, and did so in five different clubs. Friends will remember her decorating her home in 'themes' each year for Christmas. Some of the themes were: Nutcrackers, Santa's, Angels, Bicentennial, Wonderful World of Ohio and many more themes. Civic efforts included: president of the Massillon Library Board, Women's Committee of Blossom Music Center, member of the DAR, board member of the Massillon Community Hospital Auxiliary and a Twig volunteer. Her husband of 62 years Bud Sloan passed away in 2009. Gloria is survived by her daughter Mary V. Sloan and 'callie'. And there are many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be 2 PM Tuesday at Rose Hill Memorial Garden, her pastor Rev. Larry Lalama will officiate.
